Lodging owner-operator The Ascott plans to dramatically grow its existing portfolio, the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows, especially in the APAC region where over 90% of its live schemes are located. Ascott, which encompasses extended-stay, serviced apartment and hotel brands, has 203 properties and 37,618 rooms in its pipeline. We find out more about this group’s ambitious growth trajectory. Growing in leaps and bounds Ascott will add another 30 properties with 4,669 rooms to its offering before the end of the year, with 16 of them already in the pre-opening phase. 56 projects with 10,968 keys will be completed in 2021 while, in 2022, 37 properties with 7,427 rooms are planned to open. For 2023 and beyond, another 80 hotel projects with 14,554 rooms are already signed off. Given the group’s focus on upscale residences, perhaps it’s no surprise that 195 of the 203 projects we’re following will be in the four-star category. The other eight are in the five-star segment. Ascott’s top growth regions Growing across Asia is clearly Singapore-based Ascott’s priority at the moment. The APAC region is home to no fewer than 184 projects, or over 90% of its 203 new hotel schemes, increasing the company’s room count there by 35,134. The Middle East comes in second place with nine residences and 1,112 rooms under development, while Europe will see five Ascott properties open that’ll bring 741 rooms into play. Three projects with 373 keys are underway in Africa, incidentally, and North and South America will each get one new hotel. Within Asia, China has the largest pipeline with 68 hotels and 13,403 keys – Indonesia comes next with 39 properties and 6,163 rooms. Further behind, the Philippines and Malaysia will get 18 and 16 new hotels with 3,514 and 4,014 keys respectively. Thailand completes the list with nine properties and 2,135 additional rooms. Ascott’s fastest growing hotel brands Citadines apart’hotels tops this list with 72 new hotels and 13,177 rooms. Some way behind, Somerset Serviced Residences will grow by 45 properties and 9,184 keys, while Ascott The Residence will add 31 projects and 7,008 rooms to its portfolio. Further down the rankings, the budget-friendly Harris Hotels brand will get 20 new properties with 3,744 rooms, and the millennial-focused lyf hotels will add 13 destinations with a total of 2,150 rooms to its offering. Key Ascott properties you should know about The 451-room Ascott Thonglor Bangkok will be in one of the Thai capital’s liveliest upscale neighbourhoods, where guests have easy access to top-tier restaurants, bars and lifestyle venues. Set only a five-minute walk from the sky-train station, the hotel will enable residents to easily reach Bangkok’s other business and entertainment hubs. Ascott Thonglor Bangkok will provide studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as a swimming pool, gym and children’s playroom. The opening is planned for late 2021. By the end of this year, meanwhile, Citadines Marina Halong will bring 400 rooms to the area close to Halong Tourism Wharf in northern Vietnam; the property’s only a 20-minute drive from the industrial areas of Cai Lan and Viet Hung too. Guests will be able to choose between studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, and enjoy a dazzling array of facilities, not least a fitness club, a resident’s lounge and two swimming pools, including one on the rooftop – plus an adjoining bar. Over in Malaysia, the 387-room Ascott Star KLCC Kuala Lumpur will open by Q3 2021. It’ll be ideally located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with some rooms and venues even boasting views of the iconic Petronas Towers. Guests will be invited to relax in style, all while enjoying the property’s spectacular design and peaceful ambience. Last but not least, Australia will see the 252-room Citadines Walker North Sydney launch by mid-2021. This property will be at the epicentre of the city’s CBD with easy access to nearby offices, entertainment and shopping opportunities. Guests will be able to avail themselves of an assortment of high-quality facilities including a restaurant, meeting rooms, a business centre, an executive lounge and a gym. The hotel will be part of a 48-storey mixed-use tower that also features offices, shops, restaurants and a rooftop bar.
